Sony HDM63HD tape for Mini DV or HDV recording. The DVM63HD is the highest quality recording media in Sony's consumer product offerings, suitable for new HDV camcorders. It is the recommended media for Sony's new HDR-FX1 and offers quality comparable to Sony DVCAM products. It is also suitable for use in the HVR-Z1U.

The DVM63HD utilizes new, second generation Advanced Metal Evaporated (AME II) technology and improved quality control processes. This provides 90% fewer errors and 50% fewer dropouts for improved reliability and audio/video stability versus standard grade consumer product. A new lubricant also improves tape stability running under a wide range of operating conditions and a 3dB higher carrier-to-noise gives greater output and less noise during recording.

It is designed for 1080i or 720p HDV recording and playback. While positioned within the DVC consumer portfolio, it is considered a step above the Sony "Excellence" line of tape.
